Every cloud has a silver lining. we should not give up confidence in difficult times because it will lead to better days. problems are like dark clouds which block the sun from shining but if we look more closely at the edges, we could see the Sun shining like silver. the silver lining is a hope for progress and an opportunity to go ahead in life. this refers to the fact that every problem in our life has a solution and we must find it. we should not give up and blame our destiny. we must wait for the good times to come up in life. this will help us to gain experience and develop a positive attitude towards life. hard work is the price that we pay for success and all the gift we receive in life.

Ans. This poem gives the idea that identity is only temporary. Blackness or whiteness are just “clouds” that people are wearing during earthly life. Racial or colour differences disappear in heaven, where the two boys will finally become free and equal. God gives warmth of His love to all creatures without any discrimination.

Q1. Explain the significance of the title of the lesson “The Earth is not Ours”.
Ans. The title of the lesson refers to an old African saying. It says that the Earth is not anyone’s property. We are only trustees of the Earth. We have no right to pollute it. We should discourage deforestation, extinction of bio-diversity,over consumption of non-renewable resources. We should remember that the Earth belongs to our future generations So, it should be wisely preserved for them.
Q2.Write the central idea of the poem ‘Upagupta’ .
Ans. This poem brings out the strong character of a great Buddhist monk namedUpagupta . He was an ascetic in the real sense. He was forgiving by nature. He had wonderfulself-control. He was full of the milk of human kindness. He felt no hesitation in nursing the woman who was struck with a horrible disease. This poem is, in fact, a great tribute to Upagupta.
